The legendary free city-state of Noctis is a cosmopolitan merchant republic, led by Dandolo (named after a Venitian patrician family, from which many members held the title of Doge of Venice. Doge is venetian variant of latin Dux, meaning to lead, or leader; from which English derive Duke). The location of the city is meant to be kept a closely guarded secret by the nomadic merchants that habitually call this place home, however, like many locations in the Technomancer and Mars: War Logs, it is given away by its name, i.e. it is somewhere within the Noctis Labyrinthus, situated in the Valles Marineris. Geography of Mars by its inhabitants is implied to be somewhat lacking.
